Shomyoji Temple
This temple was originally built by Sanetoki Hojo to console his mother's soul during the Kamakura period (about 750 years ago). The Jodo-style Japanease garden shows the beauty of Japan during each season of the year. The bell in frount of the temple was portrayed in the "Ukiyoe" woodblock print "Kanazawa hakkei" (Eight views of Kanazawa) by a famous painter, Hirosige Utagawa, in the Edo period (about 200 years ago) as one of the most picturesque eight scenes of Kanazawa.

Kanazawa Bunko
Kanazawa Bunko was built by Sanetoki Hojo during the Kamakura period adjacent to Shomyoji Temple. It was a libraly for samurai warriors at that time. Now, it serves as a history museum.
